"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." - Coco Chanel

SS11: B&W

An abundance of white in the spring/summer shows is unextraordinary. However, the unexpected manifestation of black created a strong monochrome presence for next year. Indeed, some shows consisted nearly entirely of monochrome. Each appearence of black and white though made a very different impact, from Givency's romantic goth to Calvin Klein's classic minimalism and ChloƩ's womanly chic.

Classic ChloƩ:

I love the fluidity yet the body-clinging shape of this dress and the strong red accent of the shoes:
And the contrasting all-black. Note the leather shorts:

And now a master-class in the LBD and LWD (that's little white dress) by Calvin Klein:

Two very similar dresses at first glance, but at the same time both so different.

Goddess-like and sleek, but still subtle enough for day-time in the city. Like-wise for the white version:

Highly flattering lines and long sleeves:

Designer duo Dolce and Gabbana created a girly, innocent fantasy in broderie anglaise, black and white, and an added flirtaation with leopard print in a selection of pieces:

Pure White

And sexy black

Black is in the detailing too. I love this coat by Phillip Lim:

Play-time on the prairie by Anna Sui:

And lastly, a new, pretty gothic by Givenchy:

Do black and white ever go out of fashion?
